 The Birmingham Roller Pigeon has intrigued, and excited my senses since my first encounter with these unique birds when I was 7 years old. Having had the opportunity to be born in a place, where pigeons of every description were being flown every day from the rooftops throughout the neighborhoods and ghettos of Boston, Massachusetts. There were no such things as televisions, phones, and who could imagine playstations in that time and place. We were left to our wits, our imagination, and flying pigeons was at the top of the list of exciting things to do. In those days flying for ransom was the ultimate combat. Training was the key to our success, and every day that we put the birds up. We knew that all could be lost, or won. In that moment, pigeons I had learned were smart, you could send 6 well trained birds into your neighbors flock of 30 or more, and they would bring you back 10 from that flock. Leading me to believe pigeons know each other and where they belong within the kit. Like most pigeon lovers, I had to leave my birds for the excitement of the world. Knowing in my heart that someday, I would have a loft and continue my relationship with one of the worlds most fun pigeon, The Birmingham Roller.
